I love to share what I know and help others find their path to being their personal best! Before embarking on a health journey, I encourage people to discover their why. Why do they want to be healthy and why haven’t they gotten there yet.
After decades in the corporate world, I decided to follow my passion to not only start MY path to a healthier lifestyle, but to help others from what I learned along the way. I graduated as a certified Massage Therapist, from BMSI Institute in Overland Park, KS, in 2007 and received my National Certification through the NCTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork) in 2008.
All or Nothing
Being part of the wellness world opened up so many new opportunities for me. For many years as a single mom I had forgotten to take care of myself. I tried to eat right but never took the time to develop a good program and I exercised sporadically. With both my nutrition and exercise it was an all or nothing approach. If I was doing well and sticking to a “diet” or “regimen” that was great! But the second I did something off plan? That was it! I had failed! So of course there was no point in continuing. I would throw in the towel feeling bad about myself and life. But this was all before the Internet. Today we can easily look up recipes, find a workout and get motivation - all from our phones or computers. This, however, brings a whole new set of problems. There is so much information out there, that we don’t know where to start. It can be too overwhelming and paralyzing sometimes to even begin. I realized my starting point had to be to love myself and explore what made me feel good and feel healthy. As I went through this process I also realized there was something I had always wanted to do and that was a triathlon.
Changing My Ways
In 2014, I signed up and talked a friend into doing it with me. This was my first of three triathlons. Starting out, I wasn’t in shape and I had no idea what I was doing. Running, biking and swimming were all part of my training. I tried to eat well but found out that I didn’t truly know what that meant. I was sore all the time and my energy level was never consistent. I started learning more about nutrition and quickly realized this was my new passion. I then became a certified wellness coach through the Wellness on a Shoestring program with Dr. Michelle Robin. It wasn’t until after my third triathlon that I made the decision to take serious action with my health. My ways needed to change, and I decided I didn’t want to be on a diet or extreme exercise regimen. I wanted to create and live a healthy lifestyle – a lifestyle that would be sustainable and lasting for me.
Great Things Happen
A new vision and passion grew with my desire to learn more and to share it with others. I enrolled in the Health Coach program at the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. I learned more about the science behind nutrition. I learned how a diet loaded with whole food, fruits and vegetables not only makes us feel better but are keys to prevention. As a massage therapist, I was well-versed in anatomy and physiology – but nutrition was the missing component. Great things began to happen when I started changing the way I ate and exercising more. I lost weight, got stronger and no longer suffered from all the aches and pains I used to have.
We all go through the seasons of life and at times find it harder to take care of ourselves. What I know is starting with one simple change and building on that will lead to a healthier lifestyle. My journey has led me to being the happiest and healthiest version of myself yet. I can’t wait to start your journey with you!
